10 Practical steps to secure new employment in an uncertain job market

During this time of world economic uncertainty, some company may choose to retrench their worker. Many would give reasons that the company is not doing well financially and had to cut cost by getting rid of some of their employees. Early this year I was retrenched from a local listed technology company and last month I was struck with another blow, suffering the same fate with an American MNC.

With over 10 years of work experience in the field of security and IT, I like to offer some practical steps to those who also being retrenched and are out of job for the moment.

Here are 10 practical steps which one can apply while looking for a new career

1. Do take time to exercise and unwind yourself from all the stress; if possible go for a short vacation with family – domestic trip if you do not have the money.

6. Do not just rely on internet recruitment website; make serious effort to meet and have interview with headhunters who has strong client’s track record. As one go for more interview, one will gain more confidence.

7. Attend short course can be diploma, degree or even part time MBA for personal development.

8. Cut your spending budget by eating more at home and spend less on luxury items. Try to use the public transportation.

9. Avoid credit card as people tend to over spend with their credit cards.
